Independent developer intelligence

We mark what’s
worth your time.

In a sea of sponsored directories, fake GitHub star inflation, and synthetic AI slop, Markly is an independent editorial registry for engineers doing serious work with autonomous agents. We test boundaries, isolate operational friction, and strictly ban pay-to-play placements.

Source → Install → Stress → Compare → Mark

Every review begins in terminal isolation on bare-metal host hardware. No marketing claims survive without passing our 5 deterministic verification gates.

01

Source Audit

We inspect package.json, Cargo.toml, repository commit velocity, maintainer responsiveness, and verify open-source license purity (MIT, Apache-2.0, BSD).

MANIFEST · GIT LOG
02

Local Execution

We execute the binary or wire transport locally using uv, cargo, npm, or brew. No cloud mocks; every tool must boot cleanly with zero synthetic latency.

HOST CLI · NATIVE
03

Stress & Bounds

We stress boundary conditions: filesystem directory traversal containment, JSON-RPC memory leaks, token burn rate, and secondary API rate limits.

SANDBOX · RAM · TOKENS
04

Battleground Match

Every listing is paired against its closest operational rival in our Battleground arena to formulate a strict, 1-sentence decision rule for developers.

05

The Verdict

We publish an unfiltered 300-word engineering teardown enforcing the 2-Con Rule: exactly two physical drawbacks documented before awarding a mark.

2-CON RULE · AUDITED
The Markly Contract

Three non-negotiable standards for honest review.

Software discovery broke when directories turned into affiliate link farms and paid promotional carousels. Here is our contract with the developer community.

Standard 01

The 2-Con Rule

No piece of software is frictionless. Markly strictly requires every single review to document exactly two concrete, physical drawbacks—such as connection pool starvation under load, token bloat on binary data, or filesystem partition degradation. If a reviewer cannot document the tradeoffs, the review is rejected.

Standard 02

Anti-AI Voice Standard

We enforce a strict ban on 14 corporate AI buzzwords (delve, tapestry, seamless, game-changer, empower, harness, unlock). Every sentence reads like a seasoned, skeptical senior systems engineer who has watched production databases crash at 3 AM.

Standard 03

Zero Pay-to-Rank Policy

Rankings and leaderboard positions are deterministic calculations derived from verified GitHub momentum, maintenance frequency, and architectural utility. No venture-backed startup or cloud provider can pay to pin their tool, buy a higher signal score, or sponsor an editorial verdict.

What we inspect

Categorical verification standards.

Different architectures fail in different ways. We tailor our inspection criteria specifically to the operational mechanics of each domain.

MCP Servers

WIRE PROTOCOL
  • Transport IntegrityValidates stdio process isolation vs SSE stream stability across long-running sessions.
  • JSON-RPC Schema PrecisionAudits tool input schemas for deterministic agent argument generation with zero hallucinations.
  • Sandbox Boundary EnforcementGuarantees local filesystem or database access stays within defined workspace directories.
  • Host CompatibilityVerified 1-click configuration for Claude Desktop, Cursor rules, and Google Antigravity.

Open-Source Tools

COMPILED NATIVE
  • Single-Binary ExecutionPrioritizes compiled Rust, Go, Zig, and C++ utilities over heavy interpreted runtimes.
  • Cold-Start PerformanceMeasures sub-50ms execution speed, instant CLI argument parsing, and low RAM utilization.
  • Local-First ArchitectureZero mandatory SaaS telemetry, no recurring subscription paywalls, and complete data sovereignty.
  • Package Registry HygieneVerified distribution across official Homebrew, Cargo, npm, and Winget registries.

Agent Skills

BEHAVIORAL FSM
  • Finite State ConstraintsRequires step-by-step gate execution (e.g. Red-Green-Refactor, TDD, Root-Cause isolation).
  • Mandatory Reproduction GatesForces AI models to prove a bug reproduces before touching production application source code.
  • Token EfficiencyCompacts complex behavioral instructions into minimal tokens without context drift.
  • Prompt Injection HardeningShields agent instructions against untrusted web inputs, hidden markdown payloads, and jailbreaks.
